Every arena in this column rewards industrialization; Reddit is the documented exception — each attempt to mechanize the method has been executed by the platform, and the boundary is drawn in corpses:

- July 2026: Reddit deployed its own LLM-based detection against "AI marketing slop" (Bloomberg) — machine patrols against machine marketing.
- The 9:1 rule's history is the pattern in miniature: Reddit deleted the explicit ratio from Reddiquette after marketers gamed it with nine throwaway comments — every legible rule gets gamed, so the platform keeps the rules illegible and human-enforced (per-subreddit mod judgment).
Why the theorem survives: industrialization-needs-a-mechanical-arbiter says industrialization needs a mechanical judge. Reddit's judges are human juries with ban-hammers plus a platform actively hostile to mechanization — so the craft keeps its rent, and the surviving method (gummysearch-reply-not-post) is deliberately artisanal: slow, on-topic, human. The arena's value survives because it can't be flooded — the same illegibility that blocks your automation blocks everyone's, and the answer engines trust the corpus for exactly that reason (reddit-is-answer-engine-feedstock).
PRINCIPLES
- Where the judge is human, automation is a detectable accent — and the penalty is capital (account + brand reputation).
- Unindustrializability is the moat's material: the corpus is citation-worthy because flooding it fails; participating by hand buys into that trust.
- Watch the graveyard, not the gurus: the banned tools mark the boundary more precisely than any guideline document.
