Zeigarnik Effect (Zeigarnik, 1927)

Interrupted or incomplete tasks are remembered better than completed ones. An unfinished task holds a state of tension in memory that keeps it active and intrusive until it reaches closure — at which point the tension discharges and the memory fades.

Transfer. The open loop is the retention engine. A question posed and pointedly not yet answered installs exactly the Zeigarnik tension that keeps a reader holding the thread across the boring middle they would otherwise scroll past — this is the demand-side of serial-position's trough problem. It is the memory-tension arm of two-pleasures-arousal-and-closure: the loop opened in the hook is the manufactured debt, and 过瘾 (closure-satisfaction) is its repayment at the end. Two failure modes for agent content follow directly. Closing the loop too early — answering the headline question in the first paragraph — dissolves the tension and the reader leaves satisfied but early. And opening a loop you never close is a betrayal that poisons return. Open exactly one loop, keep it open through the body, and close it only at the peak-end.
